The van's still here.

A bloke in his 40s. Adelaide-based, always on the road. Vegan eating, long runs, and a van some of the time. I work in SEO and keep entering things I'm underqualified for.

Mark and the HiAce under the Coober Pedy truck sign.

The van's still here. It's just not the whole story anymore. (And yes, it's Waz with a z. People hear "was". That's fine. You're in the right place.)

not an expert. just there.

It started as the van and what I cooked in it. Then I ran 56 km for some reason, and that stopped being the whole story. Same person. Wider brief. Worse at saying no.

The van

It's a 2019 Toyota HiAce. I live in it some of the time, and I work from it when the reception agrees. The first big trip, the one that was going to be a lap north, got as far as Alice Springs. I turned around. That story is a video, not a metaphor.

Month one at Port Augusta is the other one worth watching if you want the unvarnished version. Cold nights. A laptop. Less freedom than the thumbnail implies.

Road to 100

In September 2026 I ran a 56 km trail ultra on about seven weeks of training. It went better than it had any right to. So naturally I've entered a 100 km race on 15 May 2027. I don't have a noble reason. I signed up. I'll film the training from the van, including the weeks that are a slog.

The Yurrebilla 56 km film is on the videos page. Training films will sit there too.

The other things I keep saying yes to

Vegan eating, which is just how I eat. It isn't a sermon. Cycling, when the van is parked and my knees aren't already complaining about the running. Comedy is the seasoning, usually at my expense. I am not a standup. If a week is ridiculous, I'll say so.

Those aren't separate shows yet. They turn up inside the travel, or they wait until there's enough of them to deserve a door of their own.
